Starting up a diet does take discipline, but it does not have to mean eating the same thing everyday, or following a rigid set of instructions that somebody else has laid out for you. Many people are successful in their weight loss goals while following a diet that they have created. It is much easier than you may think to create delicious recipes using healthy ingredients.
All Natural
The first rule of thumb in constructing your recipes is to choose from natural ingredients. Keep it wholesome. There are millions of foods out on the market which can make figuring out which ones are actually healthy a daunting task. Follow this rule of thumb, and this task becomes a lot simpler.
Here is a list of some natural foods:
Whole eggs
Free-range poultry and meats
Fresh Produce
These foods are not processed, meaning they don't contain trans-fats, preservatives, or other chemicals that are harmful for humans to eat.
Go Organic
By sticking with an organic diet, you are avoiding all of the synthetic chemicals and genetically engineered materials. Eating organic fruits, vegetables, and meats is the easiest way to make sure you are eating healthy and to lay down a foundation for losing weight. Your body was not meant to process all the artificial ingredients found in non-organic foods.
Cook with the correct kind of oil
Usually you hear the word "oil" and immediately decide that it has no place in a diet if your goal is to actually lose weight. This is a myth, there are plenty of natural oils that you can use in your cooking and still lose weight.
Oils you should use:
Olive Oil
Butter
Coconut oil (Great for deep frying!)
Oils to steer clear of:
Shortening
Vegetable Oil
Get Creative!
Don't be afraid to mix and match ingredients in your recipes. If you see a recipe that contains unhealthy ingredients that you would really like to try... swap those ingredients out for healthier ones!
Sometimes you'll find that your version of a recipe tastes ten times better than the original... and other times you will find that it tastes ten times worse (Don't worry, it has happened to me as well). The important thing is that you keep things interesting... it's when things get boring that people tend to start cheating on their diets.
If you follow the advice in this article you will be well on your way to a healthier diet, and to losing weight. However, the advice found in this short article is just an overview. Take a look at some of my recommended resources to learn even more.
