How to Lose Weight Just By Using Your Stairs

A Simple yet Effective Formula
In the past, you may have taken out expensive gym memberships or invested in specialised equipment in your quest to lose weight. This programme does not call for you to do either of the above; in fact all you need is a flight of stairs. Ideal for those with busy schedules or young children, the following workout will give your weight loss the boost that it needs.

Climb More
A simple tip that gets results fast: simply make it so that you have to climb the stairs more often. Whether you do this by putting something that you use regularly at home upstairs, or by taking the stairs instead of the lift when you're out, you'll ensure that you're burning valuable extra calories throughout the day. Small changes like this often make a huge difference as they alter our most habitual behaviour, encouraging weight loss as part of a positive lifestyle change rather than a quick fix exercise regime.

Step Up
At home, use the bottom step of a flight of stairs to perform step ups. Try to get your legs moving as quickly as possible and pump your arms powerfully to elevate your heart rate. You can add a knee lift each time you step up to vary the exercise and engage more muscle groups.

Bounding
This is great to build power in the leg muscles and is a fantastic calorie burner. Spring up the stairs two at a time, ensuring that your movements are powerful and fast. Jog back down and repeat as many times as you are able to.

Work Your Arms
Stairs are not just a great exercise tool for the legs; they can be equally effective for toning the arms. Sit on the bottom step of a flight of stairs with your palms flat on the step, your fingers facing forwards and your knees bent at 90 degrees. Push your body forwards so that your weight rests on your arms, lower yourself towards the ground and push back up. Ensure that the elbows move backwards rather than out to the side as you bend your arms in order to really focus on the triceps. Resistance exercise such as this is a great option if you're looking to lose weight, as it encourages the development of lean muscle tissue, allowing you to burn more calories when you workout.

  1. Had to put my 2 cents in! Hope you allow it? Actually I read a lot of posts regarding “Weight Loss” and to be honest, the majority of them are simply BS.

On the other hand I do run across some that are easily recognized as being from the heart and very inspiring. This is one of them. Awesome post and the information is very impressive!
