What Have Crabs Got to Do With Fat Loss?

Ever watched a bucket of crabs? Believe it or not, I have! And we can all learn an interesting lesson from them...
If you put several crabs in an open bucket any one crab with a bit of ambition can, theoretically, climb out of the bucket, right?
But...
Every time a crab heads for freedom, the other crabs pull it back down into the bottom of the bucket! No crab, it would seem, can stand to see another crab excel, so they bring each other down and stay trapped in the bottom of the bucket until dinner time.
I've seen this happen to people with their fitness and fat loss goals. Most people set out on a new fitness regime or diet with the best of intentions, but often succumb to temptation when friends or family are around. Whether it's going for drinks after work or dining out, the old "go on, one drink won't hurt!" or "treat yourself, you've earned it!" are common amongst well-meaning friends. But all this does it pull you back down to the bottom of the bucket leaving you in the same shape you started in.
If you find yourself in this position this week, tell your friends and family (politely) to stop slowing you down on your quest out of the metaphorical bucket of flabbiness and unfitness. Don't let them drag you down!
The nutrition side of things tends to be the hardest part of the program and where you will see the most temptation from your friends and family. The exercise is the easy part, so be aware and ready for one that troublesome friend or family member offers you a big fat slice of cake that will only slow your progress and pull you back down into the bucket.
If you really are going to get in great shape it might even be worth sitting your friends/family down to have a chat and point out that they're not helping and suggest ways in which they could help. Once you get them onside you need to get yourself in the right frame of mind and don't let anybody or anything get in your way. Be ruthless! Give yourself 28 days of solid effort, exercise AND nutrition and I guarantee you will see results by the end of the program.
Good luck and stay positive on your fat loss journey. There will be some tough times ahead, but there is light at the end of the tunnel or maybe a better body!
